What you'll be doing::


  • Become part of a team of 5 experienced web engineers who really care about software quality
  • Submit code changes via Pull Requests and the consequent code review for each
  • Write extensive automated tests using Selenium, integrated with Github with nightly builds.
  • Iterate on a 2-week sprint cycle.
  • Assist with special projects as needed
  • Iterate and improve our website for Desktop and Mobile Web
  • Create a beautiful and consistent aesthetic across the application
  • Work closely with the product management team to build and launch new features.
  • Set A/B tests in our framework and see the impact of each of those experiments
  • Prototype new features for Future developments and concepts

Skills:


  • Experience with Javascript, CSS, HTML
  • Ability to write elegant and documented code
  • A never-ending desire to grow and learn

Editorial Intern

The Editorial Intern will be working with Pixable's Editorial Team to write multiple posts per day on a variety of topics, helping with our photo feed curation, adding to our editorial calendar of events and generally willing to take on a wide variety of editorial tasks and duties as needed. In this position the intern will get first hand experience in working in a digital media publishing environment with a supportive team of extremely creative talent, lead by the Director Of Editorial who has experience at CNN, Huffington Post and Business Insider.


Responsibilities:


  • Support editorial staff as needed, when needed. This includes conducting research, finding photography and image sourcing, photo feed curation, and generally being helpful and awesome when called upon for a task
  • Write multiple stories daily both pitched and assigned (you'll have read the content on our site and understand what we're looking for)
  • Pitch feature story ideas in pitch meetings, complete feature assignments by assigned due dates
  • Work from home from 7am - 9:30am, in office from 10:30am - 4pm Monday - Friday
  • Weekend work as needed
  • WFH in evening as needed
  • Support Associate Editor with curation and creation of our photo feeds

Qualifications:


  • BA preferred. Even better if from a real college. Or, currently attending a real college
  • The desire have as many people see your work as possible
  • A relentless self promoter on social media
  • The ability to use social media, and not just "use" it as in you have it, but as a tool
  • Digital savvy, you know what a content management system is and want to learn how to use one to the fullest along with basic html and photoshop. Bonus if you already know these things
  • You're easy to get along with and ridiculously enthusiastic
  • Eager for feedback and able to take that feedback and continually improve and progress in work
  • At least one solid reference
  • Some examples of work that you're proud of. Can be from college, a blog, but have some writing you can show. You will have an advantage if that work is online and has been successful.
  • You're a solid writer with a fun voice and tone who understands that longer isn't always better, and shorter isn't always best
  • A keen interest in visual storytelling first and foremost. You're not here to be a long form writer

Social Media Editor Intern

The Social Media Editor Intern will support Pixable’s Senior Social Media Editor. The role is hands-on – you will help manage and grow social media platforms including Tumblr, G+, Vine, Pinterest and Instagram as well as Facebook and Twitter as needed.


Responsibilities:


  • Help grow and manage our social media accounts
  • Alert editorial to trending stories and news on social media
  • Alert editorial to excellent content found on social media
  • Provide support to the Senior Social Media Editor and Editorial Team as needed

Qualifications:


  • Passion for visually compelling content, social and editorial
  • College graduate or currently in college
  • You're accurate. You can whip up an update in no time and have it be on point, error free and provide the best representation of the content possible
  • You're on social media and have an understanding of how it is used in media beyond posting personally to your own accounts. Ideally you're on Tumblr, have a decent Twitter following, an Instagram account, use Pinterest, post to G+ and maybe even dabbled in Vine. The point being, you're keyed in to social
  • Follower of online trends and news. You know what’s going on in the world and what is being talked about
  • Gets things done. Gets instructions and is shown how to complete a task and can jump right in and go for it with minimal supervision. Yet plays as a part of the team and asks questions when needed
  • Must be willing/able to work at least 40 hours per week on a Flex schedule
  • Tech and web savvy (but that goes without saying really!)

We are seeking an intern UX Designer to help us on our task to show our users what content they need to see every day, give them an instant view of the trending stories, photos and videos shared on the internets and make sure they’ll want to pass it along to friends.


Responsibilities:


  • Bring user-centered design (UCD) process methods to digital applications from concept to launch
  • Create information architecture and wireframes that both meet business goals and ensure a positive user experience
  • Document and communicate your design ideas to fellow team members and stakeholders
  • Work between UX, product and engineering teams with tasks ranging from ideation to creating well balanced layouts.

  • Incorporate principles of usability, design, and various heuristics into new and existing interfaces
  • Performing UX research using tools such as interviews, surveys, direct observations, card sorting, etc.

Desired Skills:


  • Knowledge designing for mobile/phone/tablets. Prefer experience with Android phone & tablets, iPhone/iPad/iOS and/or mobile web
  • Proficient in design and rapid prototyping tools including InDesign, Illustrator, and/or Photoshop
  • Expert in a variety of user research and usability approaches
  • A strong desire to keep up with the latest graphic and web design principles and aesthetics
  • Understanding of current web technology capabilities (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Understanding of the features of web browsers and native platforms
  • An appreciation of constraints involved in designing for online media, and a passion for designing systems that content can live within, rather than designing the news itself

Comfortable in a fluid start-up setting. Bring an energetic, fun and creative approach to your work. Knowledge defining experiences for mobile environments.
 Familiarity with Adobe CS a plus.
